Processing the Conference

My husband and I were able to go to the Christian Heritage Family Discipleship Conference this past weekend and were very blessed by the messages shared. The keynote speaker was Voddie Baucham, other speakers included Scott and Deborah Brown, Douglass Bond, Steve Riddell, and Ken Carpenter. I thought I would post a few things shared here:

Voddie stated that children from grades K-12 receive about 14,000 instructional hours in school. If we had 4 hours a week of solid biblically based instuction, it would take 70 years to counter the effect the schools have on our children...hmmm, that IS a thought...
Voddie also shared from Luke 6:40...and this took on new meaning for me (maybe because the WORD is LIVING and active and able to pierce the soul, etc) "A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained will be like his teacher." I think I want my children to be like Jesus, rather than anyone else.

I loved what he shared about Mark 12:17 about rendering to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's...our children belong to God...

The elements of someone's worldview was shared and I appreciated being able to tell someone, okay, this is what worldview is based on:
1. God
2. Man
3. Truth
4. Knowledge
5. Ethics

and the two dominate worldviews were discussed and contrasted. A shocking statistic for me was that only 51% (at best) of pastors in America have a Biblical worldview.

He shared that old illustration about 4 blind men who are each in front of an elephant and come to their own conclusion of what it is (a tree-leg, snake-trunk, rope-tail, building-side) based on where they are...well, it is still an elephant...no matter what they THINK it is, it IS an elephant...

Deborah Brown shared the points they use to determine whether an activity is worthy of time allotment in their family...they ask:
1) Is this a skilll helpful to the family, church or community? Will it continue to be helpful?
2) Will it be helpful in marriage?
3) Do they enjoy it?

And they always ask: What saith the Lord.

Well, that is all I have time for right now...gotta get everyone going...
Love,
C~

unplugged

Well a couple of my friends have been talking about getting Unplugged for a period of time...one day a week, this time each day, etc...well, maybe I need to get plugged in...I have not blogged for quite some time...sorry to say...it may stay that way for a while... Life just seems like it is spinning out of control, faster and faster everyday...while I try to keep up on housework, schoolwork and relationships in our family, we have extra things which pull us out of our home...like Physical Therapy and Doctor's appointments and it just is. So if you don't hear from me often, I am sorry, but growing babies do not wait...my oldest is proof of that...he will be 15 soon. My youngest will be 3 next week. Life is but a vapor and then it is gone. Way too fast.

Resurrection Blessings

I hope you all had a great Resurrection Day...we did...and we are grateful that all the Cannon family (the ones who live in this house) were at church together for the first time in months...many of you know that our van died back in October...bad transmission...well it is FINALLY running again and all of us can ride together (well legally that is!!! jk). We had a beautiful cantata and a great message...we got to see old friends...and greet the saints at Seven Lakes...a good day. The rest of the day was quite...my poor MIL was sick and so we had to cancel our family gathering. I hope she is feeling better soon. I have heard that there is a terrible flu going around where you are really sick for weeks, rather than days...
Well, time for me to get off now...I have to start dinner. I think we will be having scalloped potatoes and ham.

Until next time,
